Educating in the Pandemic Era

Vol 5, Issue 2

Lessons Learnt in the Face of Adversity

Survival is the ability to swim in strange water - Frank Herbert.

Time Magazine declared 2020 as the worst year ever, with a big red ‘X’ on its latest cover. A pandemic that killed a million people. A crumbling economy. Job losses.

Despite this gloomy decree, many people and educators strive to continue providing the best at what they are doing. We have many educators learning new technologies to give an akin learning experience, and students going the extra mile to keep up with the online classes. Recently we have seen many MMED students who have been holding on tight during the pandemic times, graduating as specialists and ready to serve the nation.

In this issue at the end of this memorable year, we feature research summaries on the challenges of blended learning and clinical teaching styles. We also highlight two Apple Teachers from PPSP and ways to become one. Our regular contributor, Dr. Yeoh Boon Seng, mused on some food for thought on the focus of medical training.

In these uncertain times, let us pause for reflection. But then, let us breathe in deeply, set our sights on the future and proceed to walk onwards.

This, too, shall pass. ea
